Full name: Irene Luise Maria Anna
Princess Irene was the daughter of Princess Alice and Grand Duke Louis of Hesse and by Rhine. She married her first cousin Prince Henry of Prussia. Irene was a hemophilia carrier and transmitted the disease to two of her sons.

Ella, as she was called by her family, was the daughter of Princess Alice of the United Kingdom and Grand Duke Louis of Hesse and by Rhine and the sister of Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna, wife of Tsar Nicholas II. She married Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich, son of Tsar Alexander II. After Sergei’s assassination in 1905, Ella became a nun. Ella was brutally murdered by the Bolsheviks with five other Romanovs: Grand Duke Sergei Mikhailovich; three sons of Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich, Prince Ioann Konstantinovich, Prince Konstantin Konstantinovich, Prince Igor Konstantinovich and a son of Grand Duke Paul Alexandrovich, Prince Vladimir Pavlovich Paley; and another nun, Varvara. Ella and Varvara have been glorified (canonized) as saints of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Prince Charles Edward was the son of Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany and Princess Helen of Waldeck-Pyrmont. Charles Edward was born after his father’s death and was Duke of Albany at birth. At age 14, he became Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha upon the death of his uncle Prince Alfred. Charles Edward married Princess Victoria Adelaide of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. Their daughter Princess Sibylla was the mother of the current king of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf.

King Abdullah I was killed at Al Asa Mosque in Jerusalem by a Palestinian nationalist angered by Jordan's annexation of the West Bank. His assassination was witnessed by his 15 year old grandson, the future King Hussein. The bullet meant for the young Hussein deflected off a medal he was wearing, thereby saving his life.
