Mary was the tenth child and sixth daughter of Edward I and his first wife Eleanor of Castile. Mary became a nun in 1285 and lived the rest of her life at the Benedictine convent at Amesbury, Wiltshire where she died and was buried in 1332.

March 11, 1810 – Wedding of Napoleon Bonaparte and Marie Louise of Austria

March 11, 1899 - Birth of Frederick IX of Denmark

March 12, 1637 – Birth of Lady Anne Hyde, first wife of James, Duke of York (later James II), at Cranbourne Lodge, Windsor
Anne died before her husband became king. She was the mother of two Queens Regnant, Mary II and Anne.

March 12, 1781 – Birth of Frederica of Baden, wife of Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden

March 12, 1821 – Birth of Luitpold, Prince Regent of Bavaria
He was the regent of Bavaria from 1886 to 1912, due to the mental instability of his nephews, Ludwig II and Otto.

March 16, 37 AD - Death of Roman emperor Tiberius

March 16, 1485 – Death of Anne Neville, wife of Richard III, at Palace of Westminster; buried at Westminster Abbey
Anne died of tuberculosis eleven months after the death of her only child, Edward, Prince of Wales. Her husband was killed at the Battle of Bosworth five months after her death.

March 16, 1792 - Gustavus III of Sweden is shot by Count Ankarstrom at a masked ball; he dies two weeks later
Verdi's opera "Un Ballo in Maschera" (A Masked Ball) is based on the final days of Gustavus.

March 16, 1861 – Death of Victoria, Duchess of Kent, mother of Queen Victoria, at Frogmore House, Windsor; buried at the Duchess of Kent's Mausoleum at Frogmore, Windsor
Her mother’s death was the first of the two major deaths Queen Victoria had to endure in 1861. Her husband Prince Albert died in December.

March 17, 1473 - Birth of James IV of Scotland
James IV married the eldest daughter of England's Henry VII, Margaret.

March 17, 1605 – Birth of George II, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt

March 17, 1802 - Death of Sophia Antonia of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, wife of Ernest Frederick, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld

March 17, 1849 – Death of William II of the Netherlands in Tilburg, the Netherlands; buried at the Nieuwe Kerk in Delft

Known as Patsy in the family, she was the daughter of Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia. Upon her marriage to Sir Alexander Ramsay, she voluntarily relinquished the style of Royal Highness and the title of Princess of Great Britain and Ireland and assumed the style of Lady Patricia Ramsay.
