Peter II, the grandson of Peter the Great, died of smallpox at age 14.

February 2, 1237 – Death of Joan, Lady of Wales, wife of Llywelyn the Great, Prince of Wales and Gwynedd, at Garth Celyn, Aber Garth Celyn in Wales; her coffin can be seen in Beaumaris parish church, Anglesey, Wales
Joan was an illegitimate daughter of King John.

February 2, 1250 - Death of Eric XI Ericsson of Sweden

February 2, 1327 - Coronation of Edward III
Edward’s wife Philippa of Hainault was crowned on February 20, 1328.

February 2, 1455 - Birth of King Hans of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden

February 2, 1461 - Edward, Earl of March (the future Edward IV) routs the Lancastrian army at the Battle of Mortimer's Cross

February 2, 1503 – Birth of Katherine, daughter of Henry VII, at the Tower of London
Katherine’s mother, Elizabeth of York, died of complications of childbirth nine days later. Little Katherine did not survive her mother long and died on February 18.

Charles’ wife Henrietta Maria of France was never crowned because she was Roman Catholic.

February 2, 1650 - Birth of Nell Gwynn, actress and mistress of Charles II

February 2, 1687 – Death of Anne Sophia, daughter of Queen Anne
Anne Sophia was one of the five of Queen Anne’s 18 children who were born alive and one of the three who lived longer than a day. At the age of nine months she died of smallpox. Her sister Mary, aged 21 months, died of smallpox six days later. Both children were buried at Westminster Abbey.

February 2, 1990 - Wedding of Marina Ogilvy, daughter of Princess Alexandra of Kent, and Paul Mowatt
The couple divorced in 1997.

February 4, 1495 - Wedding of Anne of York, daughter of Edward IV, and Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk at Greenwich Palace, London
Anne married Thomas Howard, Earl of Surrey and the son and heir of the 2nd Duke of Norfolk, but she died young and they had no surviving children. The Duke later married Elizabeth Stafford, daughter of the Duke of Buckingham and was the uncle of Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howard.

February 4, 1694 – Death of Natalia Kirillovna Naryshkina, second wife of Tsar Alexei of Russia, mother of Peter the Great; buried at the Cathedral of the Archangel in Moscow

February 4, 1930 – Wedding of Prince Takamatsu of Japan and Tokugawa Kikuko
Prince Takamatsu was an uncle of Emperor Akihito, the present emperor. The prince died in 1987 and his widow Princess Takamatsu died in 2004. Princess Takamatsu issued a statement shortly after the birth of Princess Aiko stating that females should be able to succeed to the throne.

Alfred was the son of Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh and Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna of Russia. He made a failed suicide attempt after a scandal with a mistress and died two weeks later.

February 6, 1929 – Death of Maria Christina of Austria, second wife of Alfonso XII of Spain, at the Royal Palace in Madrid; buried at Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo El Real

February 6, 1952 - Death of George VI at Sandringham House, Norfolk, England; buried at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle
