September 5, 1638 - Birth of Louis XIV of France
[/quote]
To the great joy of his parents Louis XIII and Anne of Austria, as they had all but given up on an heir - they married in 1615 and Louis was their first child. He was given the second name 'Dieudonne' - God-given.
Anne of Austria had vowed to build a church in honour of the Virgin Mary if she had a son and heir - she fulfilled the vow by building the church and convent of the Val-de-Grace in Paris, which is still in existence.
