Edmund was the second son and fourth child of Henry III and Eleanor of Provence. He spent his early years traveling back and forth to France with his mother gathering mercenaries and money for his father's battles. Edmund was a staunch supporter of his brother Edward I and was the commander in Wales when the last native Prince of Wales, Llywelyn ap Gruffydd. It was Edmund who captured and executed Llywelyn. Edmund died at age 51 at the siege of Bordeaux.
