Mary was one of the five of Queen Annes 18 children who were born alive and one of the three who lived longer than a day. At the age of 21 months she died of smallpox. Her sister Anne Sophia, aged nine months, died of smallpox six days earlier. Both children were buried at Westminster Abbey.

Catherine was the fourth daughter and eighth child of James II and his first wife Anne Hyde. Catherine's mother died of breast cancer when the infant was only 7 weeks old. Little Catherine died at 10 months at St. James' Palace and was buried in Westminster Abbey without ceremony.

Elizabeth was the eldest daughter of King James I. She married Frederick V, Elector of Palatinate. Six years after their marriage, Frederick was elected King of Bohemia. He reigned only a short time and the couple was forced to flee becoming known as the "Winter King and Queen." Elizabeth returned to England when her nephew Charles II was restored to the throne. She died of bronchitis at Leicester House and was buried beside her brother Henry, Prince of Wales, in the Henry VII Chapel at Westminster Abbey. It was her daughter Sophia who was made heir to the British throne by the Act of Settlement of 1701.
