Born in 1479, Catherine was the sixth daughter of Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville. She was the sister of Elizabeth of York (wife of Henry VII) and the "Little Princes in the Tower." At the age of 16, she married William Courtenay. William was imprisoned by Henry VII for his alleged participation in the Earl of Suffolk's rebellion. He was attainted in 1504 and was unable to inherit the earldom of Devon upon his father's death. In 1511, his attainder was reversed and the next day he was created Earl of Devon. He died a month later. Catherine took a vow of chastity and died at Tiverton in Devon. She is buried at the church in Tiverton where her only surviving son, Henry, Marquess of Exeter, built a chapel and tomb dedicated to her memory.

At the age of 16, she married William Courtenay. William was imprisoned by Henry VII for his alleged participation in the Earl of Suffolk's rebellion. He was attainted in 1504 and was unable to inherit the earldom of Devon upon his father's death. In 1511, his attainder was reversed and the next day he was created Earl of Devon. He died a month later. Catherine took a vow of chastity and died at Tiverton in Devon. She is buried at the church in Tiverton where her only surviving son, Henry, Marquess of Exeter, built a chapel and tomb dedicated to her memory.
