Charlotte was the eldest daughter and fourth child of George III and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. In 1797, she married Duke Frederick of Württemberg, the widower of her cousin Princess Augusta of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. Seven months later Frederick succeeded his father as reigning Duke. Charlotte and Frederick's only child, a daughter, was stillborn. In 1806, Frederick was proclaimed King of Württemberg.
