February 9, 1671 - Birth of Catherine, daughter of James II, at Whitehall Palace
Catherine was the fourth daughter and eighth child of James II and his first wife Anne Hyde. Catherine's mother died of breast cancer when the infant was only 7 weeks old. Little Catherine died at 10 months at St. James' Palace and was buried in Westminster Abbey without ceremony.

He reigned only a short time and the couple was forced to flee becoming known as the "Winter King and Queen." Elizabeth returned to England when her nephew Charles II was restored to the throne. She died of bronchitis at Leicester House and was buried beside her brother Henry, Prince of Wales, in the Henry VII Chapel at Westminster Abbey. It was her daughter Sophia who was made heir to the British throne by the Act of Settlement of 1701.
