December 3, 1764 – Birth of Augusta of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, first wife of Frederick I of Württemberg, in Brunswick

December 3, 1838 – Birth of Louise of Prussia, wife of Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden, in Berlin

December 3, 1935 - Death of Princess Victoria, daughter of King Edward VII, at Coppins, Iver, Buckinghamshire; buried at Frogmore, Windsor
Victoria served as a companion for her mother, Queen Alexandra, and never married. Her first cousin Grand Duchess Olga of Russia described her as little more than "a glorified maid." Victoria was extremely close to her brother George V who deeply mourned her death and survived her by only a month.

December 3, 1939 - Death of Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll, daughter of Queen Victoria, at Kensington Palace; cremated and ashes buried at Frogmore, Windsor
Louise was the only child of Queen Victoria to marry a non-royal. She married John Campbell, Marquess of Lorne later 9th Duke of Argyll. The German royals severely disapproved of the marriage. When Lorne was told by the queen about this, he said, "Ma'am, my ancestors were kings when the Hohenzollerns were parvenus." Louise was the only child of Victoria's to be childless. She was a talented sculptor and the statue of Queen Victoria outside her birthplace Kensington Palace was done by Louise.

December 3, 2005 – Birth of Prince Sverre Magnus of Norway, son of Crown Prince Haakon, at the Rikshospitalet University Hospital in Oslo, Norway

December 5, 1671 - Death of Catherine, daughter of James II, at St. James Palace; buried at Westminster Abbey
Little Catherine was the fourth daughter of James and his first wife Anne Hyde. Their two surviving daughters grew up to be Queen Mary II and Queen Anne. Catherine died at the age of 10 months and was buried in Westminster Abbey without ceremony. Her mother had died when Catherine was only seven weeks old.

December 5, 1695 – Wedding of Frederik IV of Denmark and Louise of Mecklenburg-Guströw

December 5, 1891 – Death of Emperor Pedro II of Brazil in Paris; buried at the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora in Lisbon, Portugal

December 5, 1927 - Birth of King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand in Cambridge, Massachusetts
King since 1946, King Bhumibol Adulyadej is the world’s longest reigning monarch.

December 5, 1969 – Death of Princess Alice of Battenberg, mother of Prince Philip at Buckingham Palace; first buried in the Royal Crypt at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, reburied in 1988 at the Convent of Saint Mary Magdalene in Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem (near her aunt Grand Duchess Elizabeth Fyodorovna)

Lord Darnley was the second husband of Mary, Queen of Scots and the father of James VI of Scotland/James I of England.

December 7, 1724 - Birth of Princess Louise, daughter of George II, at Leicester House, St. Martin's, London
Louise was the fifth daughter and ninth and the youngest child of George II and Caroline of Ansbach. At 18, she married Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark. Three years later, Frederick succeeded his father as Frederik V. Louisa greatly missed her family and was neglected by her husband. Louise was the mother of the mentally ill King Christian VII who married Caroline Matilda, sister of George III.

December 7, 1803 – Birth of Maria Josepha of Saxony, third wife of Ferdinand VII of Spain, in Dresden

December 7, 2003 - Birth of Princess Amalia, daughter of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, at Bronovo Hospital in The Hague

Princess Marie Louise was the daughter of Princess Helena and Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein. She married Prince Aribert of Anhalt but the marriage was unhappy. Aribert’s father used his prerogative as reigning Duke of Anhalt to annul the marriage. After the annulment, Marie Louise returned to Great Britain where she was involved in a number of charities. She wrote a book called “My Memories of Six Reigns.”

Founded 9 December, 1897, the French feminist newspaper La Fronde, by Marguerite Durand, actress, political journalist, activist and staunch campaigner for women's rights. La Fronde ran until 1905, when financial pressures closed it down.

Marguerite Durand was a well-known and colourful figure, and could often be seen walking the streets of Paris with her pet lion, named Tiger.

December 10, 1394 – Birth of James I of Scotland at Dunfermline Palace, Fife, Scotland

December 10, 1820 – Birth of Princess Elizabeth of Clarence, at St. James Palace
Elizabeth was the daughter of William, Duke of Clarence (the future William IV) and Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen. She was born prematurely on December 10, 1820. Elizabeth seemed to be in good health but she developed a fever and had convulsions on March 1, 1821. The cause of death was a strangulated hernia which was untreatable in 1821. She was buried in the Royal Tomb House at St. George's Chapel, Windsor. During her short life, she was third in line to the throne and would have been queen instead of her cousin Victoria if she had lived.

December 10, 1865 – Death of Leopold I of the Belgians at Laeken, Belgium; buried at Royal Vault at the Church of Our Lady, Laeken
Leopold was the uncle of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert

December 10, 1936 - Edward VIII signs the Instrument of Abdication
