Born in 1134, William was the third and youngest son and the fourth child of King Stephen and Matilda of Boulogne. In 1149, he married Isabelle, the 12 year old daughter and heiress of William de Warrenne, the 3rd Earl of Warrenne and Surrey. When his elder brother Eustace died in 1153, William succeeded him as Count of Boulogne, his mother's country. Upon the death of his father in 1154, William made no attempt to oppose the succession of Henry II. William died at the siege of Toulouse
