Was Susan, still Susan

Postby Susan » Tue August 26th, 2008, 9:03 pm

I'm still Susan but I changed my avatar from Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth I. (Blame it on the Renaissance Fair I attended over the weekend!) I think the old forum shutting down was a blessing in disguise. Starting anew will be revitalizing because so many people are coming together to get this forum off to a good start. We're getting reintroduced, making new relationships, and perhaps looking at things differently.

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favorite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.
Location: California Bay Area

You are probably right. I joined in April of '07 (I think) and the forum felt very different then. Much more toward the pop-culture side. Now the discussions are really interesting and I'm getting a lot of useful information about what I might want to read.

I also see everybody pooling their reading history to bring out good books that were published in years past. That surely has to challenge publishers and writers to rise above the commercial level. Since I joined, I have read books that I never would have even heard about otherwise because they were no longer being marketed actively.

Susan, cannot agree more - now our mods have more control and can update!
