I found this lovely photo of Obama holding the unofficial spokesdog of the Human Society of the United States, Baby. I hope this is a big clue about his puppy choice for the White House....

That's cute. My Jasper is a Cockerainian, a Cocker Spaniel Pomeranian mix.

According to ET, Obama has said the First Pup will be a rescue dog. Only one trouble with getting a dog is that Malia, his oldest, is allergic.

The AKC is suggesting two rescued poodle puppies--no shedding problem with them for the allergic daughter.

They did a story on NPR last night about this. Apparently, Obama has been telling his daughters the same thing I've told mine. If you want a puppy, you have to be willing to take care of it. My daughters are little younger than Obama's, and they aren't yet mature enough or willing enough to help with the responsibility. We had cats, but lost our last one last year, so we're currently petless. Mommy (i.e., me) got tired of being the only caretaker of the animals.
Anyway... back to the topic, they have posted over at NPR some pictures of Presidential Pups. Thought some of you might like it. Didn't the Bushes have Barney cam for a while?

Speaking of Barney, they showed him on the news last night biting the hand of a reporter who tried to pet him.
