I went to the bookstore this weekend and happened upon the chapter that opens in Rome. I proceeded to head for the hills (and not the Seven Hills of Rome either).

Chatterbox, did you post your review on the US Amazon? The only ones there are two four-star reviews. Given the content revealed in the first review, safe to say I'd have found the novel distasteful anyway.

I looked at some of the Amazon reviews for her last couple of novels. If they're any indication, readers don't seem very taken with her "historical entertainments." Maybe someday she'll take the hint? Writing such travesties can't be helping her reputation as a nonfiction author either.

I suspect it's more a case of her publisher needing to take the hint.... It strikes me that they are serving as her enablers. And enough people seem to be buying this utter cr*p.

I don't think the review has been posted yet. Sometimes reviews are delayed or held up for a day or two; hopefully it will be on the US site by tomorrow.

OK, the review is now up on Amazon's US site. I'm not thinking of reposting it here.

Well, feel free to repost it! I just read the review. Don't think this one is worth the gasoline it would take to drive to the library for it.

Good one. I like a scathing review on occasion.

It's reposted in the reviews section.

Wow, this got three positive votes in the shortest time period known to humankind. I was waiting for the other kind of feedback...

thanx for the heads up, I was actually ging to request this from the library, I'm not a MQS fan so it was never going to be a 'buy' but I love how entertaining she is even if only for giggles.

I read your review, I thought it well written.

The problem I have is that she takes this "historical entertainment" too far in my opinion. I'm waiting to see Joan of Arc on a hovercraft or something. And while I dont mind authors playing with details she just pushes the limits, in my opinion.
