Jerusalem in Spain (Out of Spain 1492)
Jerusalem in Spain (Out of Spain 1492)
I was watching the History Channel in Israel today and saw an amazing documentary from 1992. Jerusalem in Spain is about the history of the Spanish Jews, and hosted by Yitzhak Navon, former president of Israel. Navon was a gentleman and a scholar, one of the leading experts on Spanish Jewry. He was steeped in their traditions and lore since earliest childhood. He travels throughout Spain, talking about the places and figures, and talking to modern-day Spaniards about this and that. Charming and insightful program, with a fantastic soundtrack of ladino music. Worth watching if you have an interest in Jewish history, Spanish history and the Middle Ages.

Tom Hanks stars in one of his early films, Every Time We Say Goodbye as a Canadian fighter Piloti in the RAF during WWII, who falls in love with a girl in Jerusalem from a Ladino speaking family. A charming film.
