Hard to find books cheaply

Post by Laura » Wed October 29th, 2008, 2:20 pm

Does anybody know a cheaper way to buy some out-of-print books or even used books? I have serious problems in order to get some books, for instance, books by Elizabeth Chadwick, Valerie Anand and so on with a reasonable price. Some bookshops like AbeBooks, charges me almost the double of the price of the book itself!! Other does not make shipment to LA countries. I will appreciate for any kind of help in this matter since I am a big fan of HF.

You might investigate Better World Books at http://www.betterworld.com/.
I've not used them yet but heard about them on here, I think. They'll ship anywhere in the world for US$3.97. Some of their used books are only $4, so that would make $8 including shipping...

You could try the Book Depository. It's located in the UK but I think they do free shipping. I haven't used them yet but I'm tempted to on a daily basis. :)

Unfortunately, Brazil isn't one of the countries that Book Depository delivers for free to.

I maybe showing my igorance here, but do you guys have your own Amazon? If so that's what I would try. I get a ton of good deals on Amazon.

But I will say it seems that even the cheap books arent so cheap anymore.

It really is too bad, but it seems South America is the one place where Amazon isn't,

And it is a wonder there is no Amazon Australia/New Zealand either!

But I would second the recommendation of BetterWorld books.

We can only dream of the day of a real print-on-demand for ANY out of print book!

Wow, I didn't realize there is no Amazon in South America (hee, ironic, nu?) One would think they'd have at least one on the continent. Do you have any other chains there, like Borders or Barnes and Noble?

I do like Book Depository. You might try looking on Ebay; I have found several books there that I couldn't find elsewhere (I don't know if the shipping would be as bad as ABE's tho)

I have used Powell's Books in the past and everything showed up as they said it would. I did a quick check and it looks like they ship internationally as well.
