Do Clowns Creep You Out?
According to my mother, she once had to tell me that clowns weren't real because one time when I was really little, my parents took me to the circus and a clown came up to say hello. She says I started screaming and wouldn't stop. I have no memory whatsoever of this, but I still think they're creepy.

Don't you love those family stories of when you were a kid and you have no memory of being terrified? Me it was a bear who attacked the picnic table. Everyone ran for cover and forgot me

[quote=""SonjaMarie""]Maybe Patches freaked me out as a kid? I had to go to Seattle Children's Hospital quite regularly until I was 9 for check ups, operations, procedures, etc, and I might have seen him there too many times, but then again I don't remember, just speculating.

Nah, JP's pretty unforgettable, let alone his bids at the city dump and the ICU2TVSET. I vaguely recall meeting him as a kid and giving him a kiss on the red red nose

He pops up a lot on Channel 9 during fund raising, and his videos are hysterical.

I have never liked clowns, never found them really funny. I think it is because someone can completely disguise themself with the paint and extras, them go amongst children as a friend....creepy! At least Santa always looks like a granddad!
A good book and a good coffee, what more can anyone want? xx

Heh. I don't remember much from when I was 2 or 3. The funny thing is that the story changes. My mom's said the same thing about me and Santa Claus so I'm not sure what to believe. Just one of those (possibly made-up) family stories that parents like to embarrass you with when you're older
(I have no recollection of being afraid of Santa either!)

My dad was a mall santa for a few years. His most frustrating moments were when a parent would demand that a screaming terrified child sit on his lap. He'd often try to tell the parents to bring him back another time, but by golly they had to have their pictures.
(off topic - been thinking of him a lot today; its the 30th anniversary of his death. I still have the picture of me at 20, sitting on his lap that last Christmas. He was a good man, and I still miss him)
Whats interesting about the fear of clowns, is that Halloween is so popular. Kids seem to get that its all just costumes, but the clown is somehow different. Maybe its that creepy smile....

Ash, I know what you feel, I lost my dad too when I was 20, almost 26 years ago now and I still miss him too, he was my best friend.
Anyway, about clowns : I never actually thought about them being good or bad, until I saw IT.
