What are you reading? April 2020

I’m reading The Black & the White by Alis Hawkins, a murder mystery set during 1349 when the Black Death is steadily making its way around England. Very topical! It’s a review book. I have to say I’m finding it rather long winded and slow paced. I’ve nearly finished it, though, so I’ll slog on!

I’m also reading My Lies, Your Lies by Susan Lewis via the Pigeonhole app. It’s a contemporary story about a ghostwriter who has recently split up with her husband and travels to add on to ghostwrite a memoir for an enigmatic woman. I enjoy Susan Lewis’ books and this has been no exception so far.

Vanessa, thanks for starting the thread!
Been busy with working on projects at home since my library system is closed to the public. I hope to read something soon!

I'm about to start "The Storykeeper" by Anna Mazzola, an apparently spooky tale set on the Isle of Skye in the 1850s, can't wait!

Hope you enjoy it, Madeleine. I loved it!

I’ve just finished The Tea Planter’s Wife by Dinah Jefferies, a story set in Ceylon in rev 1920s/30s. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I’m reading The Strange Book of Jacob Boyce by Tom Gillespie at the moment. And it is indeed a strange story. It’s supposed to be a literary thriller. There are a lot of mathematical equations and also some scientific jargon. Maths isn’t my strong point so a lot of it is going ovewr my head. It’s a review book so I’m plodding on with it but can’t say I’m enjoying it particularly. It peaks and troughs!

I’m now reading Death in Delft by Graham Brack, the first in the Master Mercurius mystery series set in the 17thC in the Netherlands.

I’m also reading The Secrets of Strangers by Charity Norman via Pigeonhole. It’s a contemporary story about a hostage situation set in a cafe.

Interest in HF: I've always loved reading about the past. Historical fiction has been my favorite reading genre since I was in high school. I'm 55 now, and still love it.
Favourite HF book: Rebecca, by Daphne du Maurier
Preferred HF: Not really. I'll read anything in the historical fiction genre if it sounds interesting. Though at the moment, I seem to have a weakness for WWI and Gilded Age themes.

I share your pain. I'm used to going to the library at least once a week (I live out in the country -- my nearest library is a half hour's drive away), and having them all closed until at least June 10th is driving me bonkers! I'm just glad that I have a lot of books at home to read!
