What are you reading January 2019?

Happy New Year, everyone!

I thought I’d start the January reading thread off.

I’m reading Melmoth by Sarah Perry. It’s not a historical novel like her previous book, The Essex Serpent, but a contemporary one. Judging by reviews it has a gothic feel, though.

I've just started "The Black Friar" by S G MacLean, the second in a historical crime series set in London during the "reign" of Oliver Cromwell.

Also now reading "Little Women", I have a child's version from years ago, which was heavily abridged but beautifully illustrated, but I've never read the full version.

I'm reading The Templars, Two Kings and a Pope by Grigor Fedan. I think I got it free on a kindle deal some time ago but it's actually pretty good ;)

I'm reading The Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer. Believe it or not, I've never read this late Grande Dame of the romance genre. Or a regency romance, for that matter, unless you count Pride and Prejudice. Enjoying it, although the language is rather dense/

I read the first stave of The Flower Girls by Alice Clark Platts this morning via the Pigeonhole app. It’s a contemporary psychological thriller with hints of Agatha Christie. Intriguing start!

I've decided to leave off "Little Women" for a while, as I'm finding it a bit twee, plus I know the story (I've just got to Amy's mishap on the ice), and instead am reading Ann Cleeves's "The Seagull", the latest in the Vera Stanhope series, as the TV version will be shown in a few weeks' time, and I want to read it first!
