Vets here in SC prefer to keep dogs on HW meds year round. If the winter month doses are skipped, then they won't sell me any more until they've done a blood test to be sure the dogs are clear. I don't have a problem with that - some of the winters here are fairly mild and I feel the risk from a mosquito borne parasite is possible nearly the entire year.

My dogs drink foothill creek and mountain river water at times when I'm hiking. The risk of 'slurping up' girardia parasites is fairly high, so I'll keep them on Interceptor or Heartgard year round.
