Just thinking about this because of the Halloween book thread.
Has anyone seen a ghost?
I've never seen one but I have had a few spooky experiences. Outside of having poltergeist activity while writing A Place Beyond Courage, my main one was when I used to go and feed the neighbour's cats when they were on holiday. Every day when I went in to the house I'd find cupboard doors open that I knew had been closed the day before. One day I found the neighbour's brief case in the middle of the floor when the day before it had been tucked neatly against the side of the sofa. The cats were fed in a utility room and had a cat door to the outside world, so they never came into the main part of the house. The atmosphere was scary and it got so that I'd insist on the dh coming with me to feed them. One day we arrived and the bathroom light was on and the pull switch was swinging....urrrgggh! We heard later that the family had had weird goings on sometimes. Yup, with the bathroom light. Their son swore he had once seen a face in the mirror behind him in the bathroom too. Also drawn curtains flurrying at night with no explanation. Another time the husband was singing 'Yellow submarine to their little girl and another voice joined in....'
Fortunately the cats have now shuffled off the mortal coil and another neighbour they are closer to now waters the plants and looks after the house in their absence. It's just a basic 1930's semi-detached, with no story behind it, but I never want to be in there alone again!

Without sounding like a freak..yes yes I have. But I have only seen a ghost once while I have had a ton of experiences.
There was this old hotel and I was on the school bus. WE dropped the girl off who lived across the street and my friend said look in the bottom window towards the left. I did and there standing in the window was a woman, who had dark black hair and a plaid looking dress from the 1860s? 1850s? It freaked me out. I looked back and she was gone.
One thing that happened recently to me I was looking for my shoe but I couldnt find it anywhere. I left came back from work and there it was in the middle of the bed.

I don't think you're a freak at all Divia. So many people tell me about stuff they've seen, and having had these almost experiences myself, there has to be more to it than tricks of the light or nuttiness. My best friend's sister quite often has things vanish and reappear. She's a hairdresser and one of her expensive brushes went missing - for three years. It turned up again in the middle of her lounge floor one afternoon. She was alone in the house. She went into the kitchen to make a coffee, came back and there was the missing hairbrush!
Dh has seen things on severeal occasions ranging from full blow figures to blobs of light - and he's a pragmatic practical down to earth chap who'd prefer not to have seen such things so that he could deny them and live in ignorance!

LOL!
Well, sometimes living in ignorance is good
I do think my house is haunted, but I always thought that. And frankly I'm OK with it. No bad energy just a playful spirit who likes to take shoes n stuff.
That is odd about the hairbrush! I guess the ghost wanted to look pretty.

Not me, though my mother swears that the ghost of her old cat comes back once in a while to stand in the kitchen and freak out her dog.

Never have but I've never lived in a house old enough and when I do stay at a B&B/older hotel I make sure to ask for a room that's not haunted. Although I have to admit to having a case of the willies at the Geyser Grand in in Baker City Oregon. They put me on the not-haunted floor but there was the oddest noise between the walls that really gave me pause........

I think I've felt something ghostly more than having seen one. My sister and I lived in the same bedroom at different times when we were young and we both believed that if not haunted, some ghost visited every now and then.
I was almost asleep one late evening and laying faced away from the door. The little TV was still on and I'm sure I felt the bed behind me sink from the weight of a pair of hands and then I was asked if I wanted the lights off. I thought it was my mother and said no. And then I was alone. I asked my mother about it the next day and she said she hadn't come in the bedroom at all. A few other times I felt like I wasn't alone in the room.
A few years ago my sister saw a book I have called Victorian Ghost Stories and asked if I believed in ghosts. I said maybe and asked her why she asked me that. She then said she had heard odd noises in that room years and years ago and thought it was haunted.
We'd never talked about the odd things with each other before that, so I believe something unseen was part of our living space.

My beloved cat of 12 years, Yeti, died a few years ago. We had brought him home from the vet to die rather than leave him overnight once we knew there was no hope. I sat up with him, and he died about 2 in the morning. At the very end, all the hairs in his tail puffed out as though he were saying to Mr. Death, "I'm a big, bad kitty, and you'd better respect me!" Then I had a distinct impression of his spirit dancing above his body, joyously freed. A moment later, my husband, who had gone to sleep downstairs, came up to join me. Several times in the following days, I could feel Yeti's spirit present, either while I was working in the garden (he had always loved to hang out nearby while I gardened) or in his usual snoozing place on the couch. It gave me a lovely feeling of peace amid the mourning, and now I know the spirit lives on after death.

Thats nice Margaret
And you're right that is comforting becuase people say that animals don't have a spirit, but I know they do.
We were talking about ghost animals in my ghost class last Wed. I have to say I have never experienced a ghostly animal visitation. A part of me wants to experience one and and a part of me doesnt.

I've never seen a ghost (at least not in person), but I've heard things and one night a few years ago I was lying in bed ready to fall asleep when I felt a gust of air on my left ear. The window wasn't open, the fan wasn't on, there was no one else, human or dog, in my room and needless to say it freaked me out. It hasn't happened again and for that I'm thankful!
I have seen and heard things on Ghost Hunters and some of them are down right freaky!
