Yes, The Winter Mantle is a stand alone but very, very, loosely linked to The Winter Mantle. A character who was a tiny baby as Misfit says in TWM, has his adult story told in The Falcons of Montabard. He's mostly imaginary too, although the historical facts surrounding him are all true. It was a chance remark in a chronicle about an illegitimate son of Simon de Senlis about whom nothing else is known, that led me to create his son Sabin. So although the novels are linked, the way I've written it, that link is tenuous.
