In late April/early May, I, Anthony Riches (Hodder author, Empire series) and Russell Whitfield (Myrmidon author, Gladiatrix novels) will be walking Hadrian's Wall, in full Roman gear.
We'll be posting lots of updates and photos as we walk; I'm also going to try to arrange one or two days when readers who are interested can join us on the hike.
Were raising money for Combat Stress and Medecins Sans Frontieres. I have set up a charity giving page here.
It would be wonderful if any of you could see your way to sponsoring us, even it's only for a few dollars/pounds/Euros. Thank you.

Could be fun - hopefully the weather won't be quite so cold by then - I've just been looking at pictures of snow at Housesteads
Are you in training? Best of luck with raising money for your causes.

I've just started hiking a bit more than normal. My Roman boots will arrive in the next few days, however, and my linen undertunics/wool tunic/wool cloak not long after that. I'm awaiting leather straps to use to carry my scutum, as well as a pilum and pectoral/back plates from Spain. Soon I will be able to march around the lanes here, making people stop, stare, and most likely, laugh!
However, the good news is that we have already raised > £1600 ($2500).
Onwards and upwards!

Great effort, Ben. Unfortunately I can't open up the image enough to actually see you!
The Romans are coming to a town near us shortly - with an exhibition of various Roman machines, not quite full scale but in working order and beautifully made by the Artisans of Florence, who special in work for travelling exhibits. I'm looking forward to catching a look at them.
"The Roman Machines exhibition explores four themes:
Military Genius, which explores how through discipline, tactics, communication and the war machines themselves, how the Roman army came to be seen as unbeatable.
All roads lead to Rome, which is dedicated to the Roman civil genius and shows how the Romans mastered technology to control their environment and govern their citizens.
Building Rome, which contains the devices that contributed to the massive construction and industrialisation of the Roman Empire, which may be considered the prelude to the industrial revolution.
Entertainment and lifestyle which explores how the Romans used their skills and knowledge in architecture and engineering for entertainment and relaxation.
There are thirty hands-on machines in the exhibition to explore these themes".

Hi Annis - annoyingly, this forum isn't set up for pics of more than 90kb - tiny. If you're on the dreaded Facebook, have a look at my page: facebook.com/benkanebooks - loads of pics there!
Interesting sounding exhibition.
