You might try Half of the Human Race by Anthony Quinn. Set just before, during and after WWI, mainly in London. Not perfect, but sweet love story and also focusing on the suffragette movement etc.

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.

I've never read this one--The Road Back by Erich Maria Remarque. This is the sequel to All Quiet on the Western Front. It was published in book format in 1931 after its original publication as a magazine serial the previous year.
