Well a 'Fanny' in the UK refers to buttocks, and I think may be even ruder elsewhere in the world. 'No front bottoms' as the very proper lady in Calendar Girls says.

And is also a euphemism for the 'F' word in other contexts. Sweet Fanny Adams for example, being a way of saying 'Sweet eff all.' A merkin is the 17thC word for a pubic wig, worn by ladies who had lost their hair down there due to syphilis or advancing age....

I knew what fanny meant, you guys got a big laugh over fanny packs. Do you know who Fanny Adams was, poor little girl who was chopped up in late 19th century.

That went right over my head as well. I may have to start a thread on this book, but I'm too tired to deal with it tonight. I'm reading more and it is just hilarious. I can't keep up with the quotes on my updates at Goodreads, and sorry that with an ARC I can't use them in a review.

Just finished the new biography on Marilyn Monroe: Passion and Paradox. Ick. I gave it three stars because the author did somethings that no one else did and that was to explain the history of things. AKA often time poor kids were shuffled from house to house and Marilyn wasnt so different. But man holy dreaded information dump, Batman. Someone needed to edit down the book.
