The Lone Ranger

OMG- first pictures of Johnny Depp in the forthcoming Lone Ranger movie- what is this- Tonto of the Caribbean?!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog ... ohnny-depp

I thought the bizarre headgear must have resulted from the costume designer's overindulgence in some mind-altering substance, but no-- apparently it was inspired by the equally inauthentic painting shown in this blog post!

Oh, no! Loved the Lone Ranger growing up. Now that the pirate's bird has left the shoulder and moved to the head, I'll never get that image out of my mind!

Trust Johnny to overshadow the lead character!

They're recycling costumes again aren't they? Didn't Bruckheimer produce the POTC movies too? Putting a bird on top doesn't make it look new. This is like when MGM reused leftover costumes from Gone With the Wind for Pride & Prejudice. Ridiculous.

Yes, and the director is the same as the Pirate movies, too.

As for the bird, all I can think of is the pirate hat with the seagull sitting on a skeleton from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland and Disneyworld. Makes me so homesick for Virtual Magic Kingdom where I had that hat for my little avatar. Sigh.

I enjoyed the Pirate movies (always like fun buckle swashlers from Douglas Fairbanks on). I'll reserve judgement until I see it. I do know it was an on again/off again project due to budgeting. Depp apparently took a huge pay cut because he's very anxious to play Tonto.

Apparently Johnny Depp recently told talk show host Larry King the Lone Ranger script was "very funny" and likened the character to Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates films.

"What I like about Tonto, what I feel good about Tonto is that I feel like he's - you know when I came up with Captain Jack, I thought, 'Okay, I've really arrived at something different here', and Tonto feels right on par with Captain Jack.

"It feels like another Captain Jack to me."

Yep, Johnny, we get that - saves having to work up a new character role, right? He clearly hasn't arrived at something different for poor old Tonto :)
