The Great Courses

Post by Leonardo Noto » Sat February 25th, 2012, 8:19 pm

I recently discovered The Great Courses, a company that offers higher undergraduate to lower graduate school level courses for around $50 a course. I recently completed one of their creative writing courses, an economics course, and a course on argumentation and I don't have enough good to say about them. If you live in Los Angeles or NYC and have a long commute, they're a great way to spend your car ride.

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.
Location: California Bay Area

I have 30 or so of their courses, and some are better than others. Some are more interesting than others, too. I mostly get history courses, although for my husband's commute I also get music theory courses.

The King Arthur one is good. Some of them are a bit dry and need to be listened to in short chunks.

So far, I've watched one about medieval England. It was pretty interesting.
Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE´LL FIGHT TILL THE END! And send our enemies straight to Hell!
- "Into Battle"
