Interest in HF: The first historical novel I read was Katherine by Anya Seton and this sparked off my interest in this genre.

The adaptation before the Emilia Fox one was with Joanna David, who is EF's mum.

I remember that one, I hadn't heard of Rebecca before but a schoolfriend said it was really good, so I watched the rest of it - think I missed the first part - and thoroughly enjoyed it, and bought the book afterwards, in fact I still have the TV tie-in edition. I think Jeremy Brett was Maxim in that one and he was very good.

I think Charles Dance was Maxim in the more recent version, and I think I felt he was a bit mis-cast.

It's funny how Olivier's acting style has dated though.
