Mycenaean Comics

Post by lauragill » Wed January 4th, 2012, 9:55 pm

As some of you may know, I tweet--twit, twitter?--as a humorous version of Orestes, son of Agamemnon, who inhabits an anachronistic Late Bronze Age universe where the Atreidai celebrate all our modern holidays, where Theseus can take his women to see "Immortals" and call it a documentary, and where Mycenaean ladies drag their husbands to IKEA Corinth.

I was recently inspired to do some cartoons based on my tweets. Here are Orestes and Hermione on Christmas morning. If you look real closely, check out the ornaments on the tree. This image is half of a diptych, in which Elektra and Pylades will be on the other side.

That's cute. I can't enlarge the image to get a good look at the ornaments on the tree, but what I could make out was good.

There's a chariot, a horse, a dolphin, the Snake Goddess, a rosette, a bull, some grapes, two labryses, and some globes. Photobucket sizes images automatically, but I was able to go in and edit the default, so you should be able to see it now.

Orestes can't enjoy his 1249 B.C. girlie calendar in peace.

Not a comic, but a map of Mycenae from the Orestes Trilogy. I added it to The Young Lion, as well as cleaned up a few typos, in anticipation of Sunday's release of The Outcast.
