Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.

Thanks for this thread! I just bought The Moghul by Thomas Hoover. It was published by Doubleday in 1983, when I was too buried in babies and llamas to notice, but it has been republished in Kindle edition (by the author, I hope--he deserves it) and it is turning out to be a great read!

Basically the same set-up as Shogun, but using a historical protagonist: the first Englishman to reach/be accepted in the court of Jehangir, the fourth Moghul Emperor, during the reign of James I of England (James VI of Scotland).

[/quote] I'm also grateful this thread! MLE - Thanks for the heads up on The Moghul. I've got it and Caribee downloaded free on my Kindle. Now I'll add several of Hoover's other freebies since he's that good.

As an aside - I've been downloading lots of free stuff by trolling through the "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" section of the book's main product screen. When I see $0.00, I click on the book and usually download while it's free. Often!!

I've had both of those for a while now via freebie. I just keep getting side tracked by other books *hangs head in shame*

The Secret Holocaust Diaries by Nonna Bannister is currently free on Kindle. I thought I had mentioned it here, but I can't find a post.

That's likely the case. My memory is shot anyway.

Today's Kindle Daily Deal is His Last Duchess by Gabrielle Kimm - $0.99 for today only!

I almost bought this in the past but I didn't love the sample... however, for only $0.99, it might be worth it.
