Glad you enjoyed it, Ken.

Ariadne recently reviewed Hawk Quest at her Reading the Past blog, and happily, she liked it as well :)

The great write-ups here were one big reason I decided to take it on! :)

I haven't read this yet but I bought it recently and can't wait to read it.
But I came across the cover for the Spanish edition and think it's gorgeous.

Gorgeous - I think I recognise that shield and pose. Somewhere on my PC I have a similar photo - it's my Regia Anglorum lot again I'm nearly sure - or at least taken at the most recent Hastings bash last year.

Wow. uncannily the same. Sorry which came first, you think? The cover photo pose comes from Regia Anglorum at Hastings?

Yes, the photos came first. I have several more terrific ones in my personal collection, all on this theme that were posted to Regia's forum a while back at the time of the bash. I think it was Hastings, but might just have been another of our equine events. The photos aren't public domain so I'll take down the one I've shown you pretty soon. I don't know the rider's name, but I did recognise the shield straight away! Obviously the photographer is using them as part of his living by selling the images for book covers etc. Stewart Binns' novel Conquest stars Regia equestrian Nigel Amos in a photoshopped pic of Nigel on a rearing horse.

I'm taking this with me on my next vacation; I figure rather than lugging 4 books, this time one will do me just fine! Plus, the rave reviews have me very intrigued.

Years ago, I loved an author named David Ball who published books in this vein of historical adventure: "Empires of Sand" and "Ironfire." His books just swept me away; while male-orientated, he always had wonderfully vivid women characters, too. The periods these books explore, the sweep of them, are marvelous and rarely treated elsewhere. I'm hoping "Hawkquest" does the same.

I'll look for this book the next time I visit the local bookstore. Sounds like it's definitely worth a browse.

A browse? It's worth far more than that, IMO!
