I found a really good site if you want to browse through all the primary sources like Calender of State Papers and Assizes records.
There is some fascinating stuff on there, like criminal proceedings and personal letters. I bet there must be loads of undiscovered stories in there -you never know what you're going to stumble across - I could spend all day just browsing :)
