Question: Speculative Fiction, Where?

Post by Jeanne » Thu August 4th, 2011, 8:49 pm

Good afternoon ~

Quick question: I'm new to the board, and I was navigating about trying to identify what's what. (I'm on another topical board that uses Simple Minds, so I understand the basics of how things work from a technical angle.)

I was looking at the major subject headers, and I noted with pleasure "Historical Mystery", "Historical Fantasy", etc.

Where should speculative fiction discussions take place? I define speculative fiction as "what if" books. A couple of new steampunk style books my husband described to me - one going forward assuming the assassination attempt on Queen Victoria had succeeded - would qualify, as is a manuscript he and I are working on together assuming Monmouth's Rebellion had succeeded.

The topic doesn't really seem to fit comfortably in any of the existing subject headers, "Historical Fantasy" coming closest (but I would personally define that as including supernatural elements, and reading down the topic list seems to confirm that).

Suggestions cheerfully solicited.

You can just start a thread under "Historical Fantasy" for now. If there's enough interest, we can always give Speculative Fiction its own category. Welcome to the board!

Thank you for the tip! I will, and thank you for the welcome.
