I agree that a book needs to be judged according to its genre. While I will look at reviews of a book I think I might select to read, I'm more interested in seeing book excerpts. When I write a review, I emphasize what I appreciated and what I felt was lacking. I try to include examples. Here is an example. I appreciated Jeff Shara's personalizing of famous historical leaders like Franlkin, John Adams, and Washington in "Rise to Rebellion"; but I absolutely abhorred his lazy, inaccurate account of the Battles of Lexington and Concord.
