Laura's Reading List

Post by lauragill » Sun July 31st, 2011, 3:58 am

7/30: I am currently 3/4 through Henry Treece's The Amber Princess, a novel about Elektra.

It's interesting to read novels by authors like Treece and Shipway, and see what the thinking was regarding the Mycenaean world half a century ago, and how male writers interpret these stories. I don't agree with all the interpretations, mostly because there have been so many new discoveries and research done on the Mycenaeans in the last few decades.

8/1: Just received Treece's Oedipus in the mail. Skimmed through it. It looks very good. Treece is like Shipway, in that he's best when he's writing a male protagonist in an adventure story.

Put Margaret Atwood's The Penelopiad in my Amazon shopping cart.
