Wait until you get to the third book...

*nods head knowingly* I am with Brenna...Wait until you read the 3rd book-it's a humdinger and after reading the relevent chapter I then through the book across the room...and sat steaming mad for 10-20 minutes  vowing I would not read another word! But then came the thought...but what happens to Tyrion, Jaime, Brienne, Jon Snow etc and I picked it up again :D I must be a glutton for punishment :D but a willing one. :D

Good luck

Bec :)

OK...I read A Clash of Kings and A Storm of Swords while on vacation and started A Feast of Crows on the plane ride home. I now understand the wallbanging references earlier. :D I thought I put my characters through hell...I'm a kindly grandmother compared to torturer Martin! How could he
I know some folks don't like the Dany story line, but I find her parts fascinating. Sansa, I still find very annoying. The girl seems to have the wits of a turnip. I initially liked Arya, but she's getting pretty annoying as well...at nine she's turning into a feral child...understandable, but not fun to read as Martin writes her. Both of their sections seem like "info dumps" where Martin can fill in the gaps with folks providing information that the girls overhear or learn in place of the reader. Neither has any control over their lives. Jaimie is definitely growing on me.

Like many, I'm unhappy with a lot of the new characters particularly in AFOC. I jumped right in because I wanted to find out what happened to Tyrion but I skimmed through and he doesn't get his own POV in this book! ARRGH!

My hubby and I finished AFFC over the weekend and started A Dance with Dragons. Off to a good start but I'm keeping expectations lower. I know that the general concensus is that it does not measure up to the first three, but it a bit better than Feast, if only because more of the characters we care about appear.

I finished CoK last night and will be putting the series aside for a bit. Mainly because I bought a Helen Hollick book for my upcoming trip - and Hollick trumps Martin any day. :p Plus there's another series of books (not HF) that I've been wanting to read for a while. As I said in an earlier post, I read through a lot of the character list on Wikipedia and it is one big spoiler. So I know what happens to everyone even before reading. Maybe that's a bad thing; I haven't decided yet.

I still like Dany, even though she's weird. LOL I like Arya still; dislike Sansa. Faith, I can understand your frustration, but when you have kids as POV characters, they are going to have to do what adults tell them to do unless they live in a world where kids do whatever they want. That's why I don't like the fact that there are so many kid POVs to begin with.

Hi faith :)

I think the most frustrating thing for me when it comes to Martin's plot lines is that the time zone stays the same, no-body seems to grow to maturity. Sansa and Arya are still children and that can be wearying to the reader. As for Jaime yep I can see his POV and his irritation over why so many hate him for kiling the mad king and call him 'Kingslayer' what was he supposed to do play tiddly winks for goodness sake! There is a touch of hypocrisy from all of them when it comes to the murder of the mad king. But I still swing back and forth with Jaime(there is his er sister thing and what he did to that child!) And now you know why I threw CoK across the room...How could he!!! At times I long to put Martin in the stocks and throw rotten eggs at him! lol. :D
Now I wait for 'Winds of Winter'...sigh...

Sharz--"A Dance with Dragons. Off to a good start but I'm keeping expectations lower..."

There is a revelation in ADWD and also another shocker...so reader rejoice and also beware. Isn't Martin a stinker at times? lol :p

Rowan--"Faith, I can understand your frustration, but when you have kids as POV characters.."

I wish Martin would move the characters on a bit ADWD would have been the perfect opportunity to move ahead a few years, but unfortunately he didn't. Now I have to tap my toes and wait for his new book...Goodness knows when that will be finished!
