Fabulous post :) Love the lady with her pipe letting it all hang out, though I'm thinking that particular fashion must have been a bit chilly in an English winter (or summer, for that matter). The breast as political statement! Wonder what statement the ice-cream cones of the 1950s were making? And I'm sure those Regency ladies (supposedly liberated from underwear) used some sort of corsetry to get that boobs-hoisted-to-just-under-the-chin look you see in many contemporary pictures.

I bet a few disappointed 17th century ladies wall-banged The Ladies' Diary after marinating their boobs as per instructions and finding that their saggy, "uncomely" breasts hadn't miraculously become plump and round overnight!

Great reading, though, I never have trouble with my corsets. ;)

Thanks for sharing, EC. Dangerous things necks. Ha! Great stuff. To think I planned to wear a bikini to the beach this year, exposing all but the two little bits that should be free!
