Yay. I bought a Nook!

After too many things breaking this winter and being in debt because of it I was able to pay it all off and I bought myself a nook!

Its not a color one, but I dont like the color one cause of the screen. I wanted the kindle but I hate the keyboard function. I found it cumbersome and I like the touch screen better. Its used, refurbished but it is the 3G wifi for only 106.00.

Does anyone else have the nook? Any tips for this newbie.

I know of project Gutenberg but where else can I get the free books that are in the public domain?

Congrats. Have fun. Don't get piggy with the free books like I did

Where to find them, I'll leave to my betters. Amazon makes it easy with the kindle, but I assume you should be able to download frm Project G with no problems.

I sat next to a lady on the airplane today who had a Nook. She really liked it. I would think the Barnes and Noble webside would have public-domain downloads.

I already have a question about it(even though it hasn't come yet). I want to buy a book but only Kobo and Amazon have it. I know I can't change the Amazon format but can I buy it from Kobo?

I'm not entirely sure but I think you can load Kobo books onto your Nook using Adobe Digital Editions. You may want to check/ask on the B&N Community: http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/
There's also an unofficial forum at http://www.nookboards.com/forum/

As for other public domain sources:
http://www.archive.org/details/texts - they have a lot of stuff Gutenberg doesn't, especially non-fiction and old textbooks, but their formatting is pretty poor and there's usually lots of OCR errors. I use it as a last resort.
http://www.manybooks.net - they seem to have a lot of out-of-copyright novels

We have a color nook at the library and we are testing them out. the boys thought it was pretty cool and they wanted to play with it. Plus they loved the feature that allows the nook to read to them.

Got myself a used first generation Nook courtesy of eBay. Also won an eBook recently so I'll be trying it out soon.
