Greetings from Portland, Oregon
Hi all. I'm a reader and writer who's glad to have found this place.
I'm the author of the WWII espionage novel The Losing Role, the crime noir thriller False Refuge, and a comical mystery of errors, Besserwisser: A Novel. The Losing Role is the first in a series involving the German and American Kaspar brothers.
I've been a history dork since I was a kid and was on the way to becoming a professor in modern European history before I discovered I could tell truths by making things up with fiction. Along the way I've been a Fulbright Fellow in Munich, Germany, and have written short stories and screenplays. I've worked in marketing, advertising and journalism. Other day jobs include language instructor, waiter and, currently, freelance copywriter. I travel as much as I can (and can afford). I'm a big soccer fan. Beer tastes good. I live with my wife René in my hometown of Portland.
Be seeing you around!
Steve

Welcome, Steve! We have a couple of people from Washington State here--must be a good area for historical fiction!

Thanks, Susan! You might be right about the Pacific NW and historical fiction — at least I hope it's true. Maybe there's something in the rain.

Welcome Steve! I visited your fair city last summer, except it was less than fair - rainy and cold the whole time! But actually I had fun. This summer we are back there for a few days, then taking in the Ore coast to CA. See if you can get the weather to cooperate this time so we can go see the lovely rose gardens!

Whoops, why did I say Washington State when you said you were from Oregon? Welcome anyway!

Thanks, Ash! I wish I could promise better weather but we don't attempt to know the unknowable up here as you can imagine. Good to hear you had fun. That said, I'll have a little talk with the Cascadian Weather Gods, see what I can do. ; )
You should hit the Japanese Gardens while you're at it. Impressive stuff.

Close enough, Susan! We pretend to dislike each other, but we're practically family.
