I'll be taking Margaret George's Elizabeth I with me when I go out of town; it'll be my travel book, so I set it aside till then. I like to bring a tome with me when I go on a plane, as it precludes packing 17 other books I'll never get to but feel I must take anyway. So far what I have read of Margaret's new book is marvelous. We're meeting here in SF soon for dinner while she's on tour, so I'm getting every first edition I have of hers signed!

I really fancy this one. Please let me know how you get on with it, CW. It's told in story format rather than as a biography, isn't it? I loved Margaret George's Autobiography of Henry VIII which actually didn't make him seem so horrid!
I'm currently reading, and thoroughly enjoying, Daughters of Rome by Kate Quinn.
Ordered this one off Ammie yesterday and really looking forward to it, I loved Mistress of Rome. Have given up on Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier for now, I read roughly about 80 pages and just don't feel in the mood for it at the moment - can't quite put my finger on why, I don't think it's her writing. Reading The Running Vixen by Elizabeth Chadwick now :)

I finished Nigel Tranters Unicorn Rampant, last night, which (like all his books to greater or lesser extent) I very much enjoyed. This was the 6th Tranter book,I've read, dealing with characters surrounding James VI of Scotland and I of England. His portrait of this "Wisest Fool" is remarkable.
I've just stared The Sunne in Splendour and am looking forward to it.

Finished Steven Saylor's The Triumph of Caesar last night and found it only "meh." I very much enjoyed his Roma and looked forward to this one, but his aging Gordianus the Finder was not compelling. Starting Isabel Allende's Island Beneath the Sea next.

Karen Maitland's Gallows Curse (fiction) set in 13th century England, and Alistair Urquhart's Forgotten Highlander (non-fiction), a remarkable WWII memoir.

I've finished "Murder on the Marmora: A George Porter Dillman & Genevieve Masefield Mystery #5" by Conrad Allen (295pgs 2004)*. Another good book in the series.

I just started "Mayflower: A a Story of Courage, Community, and War" by Nathaniel Philbrick. Nonfiction, but very interesting so far.

Yesterday finished Wicked Company by Ciji Ware -- review up at Epinions, of course. Damn fine book, and lots of fun, despite some early 90's cliches.

Finished reading Brother One Cell by Cullen Thomas, a NF set in modern day South Korea, about a ESL teacher who does an incredibly stupid mistake and ends up in prison. Very insightful into the way that Western/Asian minds think.

Now moving onto The Hostage Queen by Freda Lightfoot.
