Question on Pronunciation - Este

Post by SonjaMarie » Mon March 28th, 2011, 7:41 pm

Like in Alfonso d'Este. Is it "Este", with one syllable, or "Es-tay"? Or something else?

It's two syllables, with the stress pretty much evenly measured between them, or slightly more on the first syllable. The second e is shortish, not a long "ay" sound. Kind of like the first two syllables of the word "destiny."

Dear Elizabeth,

Thanks for replying! I'm happy it was you that did, because the question arose because I'm reading your book! It's very good so far (and I expect it will stay that way :) ).
