Mello's 2011 books

Post by Mello » Thu March 24th, 2011, 1:17 am

March already, and nowhere near enough books read!

Cloudstreet by Tim Winton. Like most of my books, this has been on my pile for a long time, but I finally picked it up. Set in the post WWII era, it spans 20 years in the lives of 2 families and one house. I started this book after finishing Wolf Hall, which I absolutely loved. I was reading Cloudstreet, but just not getting into it, suffering from a Wolf Hall hangover. Until suddenly I clicked on and realized what a treasure it is and what a brilliant writer Tim Winton is. It is very “Australian”, and that is what I loved about it. Now, can’t wait for the upcoming miniseries. 4.5/5

Alinor by Roberta Gellis. I am really enjoying reading about the medieval period at the moment and I think RG is a fine writer. But Alinor and Ian suffering from what they call in romantic fiction the “big mis”, annoyed me just a little. 3.5/5
