Prayers please for Gabrielle Giffords

Post by Ash » Sat January 8th, 2011, 10:16 pm

Or your good thoughts and hopes. This Az congresswoman was shot along with seven others at a Tucson shopping mall during a 'congress on your corner' event. Original reports said she died. She is in serious condition, had been in surgery all morning and was just released. Doctors are optimistic. A judge was killed as well as a young child

I don't know if the mods want to sent this to the rant thread, because Im about too. Im surprised this hasn't happened already, and suspect its going to happen again. There is too much hate, too much flaming, too much inciting by officials and tv personalities, all that encourage the craziest to think they are doing the right thing when they chose violence as a way of solving problems. Im just sick of this, Im sick at heart, I fear for my country and dammit its my birthday! I think I need to to go for a walk.

ETA um, Ive been sick the last 48 hours so my mind is a bit gone= her name is Gabrielle Giffords.

Mods, please fix her name in the thread title, thanks

Maybe this will be a wake up call. Maybe people in politics and in the media will realize that the blatant spewing of hate does nothing but inflame people, and the crazies out there don't need much encouragement. Maybe sanity can be restored, and civil discourse can be the norm rather than the exception. I hope something good can come of this horror.

I've changed the thread name, my first mod act.

My prayers go out to everyone affected by this senseless act!

I wrote a short note on the Debate thread.....The last time I was so personally devastated ; was when JFK, Martin Luther King, and RFK were assasinated....Ash...Today I'm sick at heart about the state our Country......We cannot allow the Haters to continue to have a media platform....Simply they incite the unstable in our society......

I first saw a headline about Rep. Giffords on washingtonpost.com but didn't read beyond that. I heard the full story on WTOP radio as I drove home from work last evening. Horrible! :(
Prayers for her and all affected...
