And I regret the slideshow that showed very little in the way of bling. Nary a ruby to be seen.

It's a luxury hotel, with a luxury tree. They didn't pay $11 mil for the tree, it's just decked out in that much worth of bling. Not great PR, but not as big a deal as some people are trying to make it. Now they can make some great charitable gesture to offset the issue. Win-win for them.

You're such a cheapskate. ;)

Wonder how much they're spending on 24/7 security to guard the tree? There was no mention of it, but I can't imagine that they would leave the tree unguarded for people to pick off "ornaments" and stick them in their pocket to take home........

That is what I was wondering. We don't even have a tree at my house.
Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE´LL FIGHT TILL THE END! And send our enemies straight to Hell!

I imagine they have top security to begin with and may not need to spend much more on it for the tree.

I want a close up of the bloody thing. I guess us po' folks don't get no close up of that mighty fine tree.

My charlie brown tree is just as nice...ok its not, but I have to make myself feel better somehow. :)

Choosing the puniest plant because I feel sorry for it that no one else wants it. :o

I agree, it's just a display of stock, really, not that different than if it was in the jeweller's window. I think it's a clever idea - turns a decoration into an art installation. I'd love to see it close up.

I was taken aback by the gold bar vending machine though.

In other news, my parents' little fibre optic tree which changed colour has stopped changing colour, so they have disposed of it. Father liked it and wanted another, but stepmother (who had bought it for £9 on offer in a supermarket) balked after discovering that a new one would cost about £30 (they have already bought a very large fat real tree). But it looks dirt cheap compared to this tree!

Did you know that you can actually buy a CB tree? Comes complete with its own little blue blanket. One of the secretaries at my school has one. She surrounded it with some really cute holiday CB ornaments.

Here it is:
