I am going to be getting an iPad within the next few months and want to use it to read ebooks. I know most people here are against ereaders, but when you live with parents and are limited to one cell block for space, real books aren't always an option. :)
I'm not one of them, I've gone completely electronic :D Like you, I just don't have the space for paper books any more. My husband and I share a small apartment. Also, I get hand strain from holding open a paper book too long.

Julianne--my agent has told me that he is happy for me to do whatever I want with my books (the ones he's not trying to sell). I talked to him yesterday about the downloads and about putting up two more of my previously rejected books. Many of his authors are doing the same thing--particularly with books that are out of print. As long as I forward any queries from traditional publishing industry people to him :) Which of courrse I would do.

Thanks, Sarah, I was curious because it seems to me an agent would be loathe to let an author do this--publishing the book as a free e-book prevents him/her from ever seeing any money from it (unless it gets picked up as a result of the e-book downloads). But I see you said it's books he's not trying to sell. I suppose if a writer has a number of manuscripts, e-pubbing some of them might generate a sale of the repped ones. In any case, I hope the strategy works out well for you. It must be exciting to see so many downloads!

You could definitely never do this for books he's trying to sell. But he tried to sell the Last Pendragon for 18 months and the first two books in a YA time travel fantasy series I just put up last night at Smashwords, Feedbooks, and on Kindle (though that's taking some time), a different agent and I tried to sell for 2 years. So . . . we can't go back to the well for either of those again. So why not put them up and share them? I'd love to make money, but it is way cool to have so many people read my books and like them. These aren't literary fiction or rocket science, but fun--I had fun writing them and apparently, people have fun reading them.

And, once again, I'm giving the first book away for free and have 160 giveaways plus one sale since 6:30 pm last night. It's like I'm finally writing for an audience instead of me with my laptop in a cone of silence.

Interest in HF: I love history, but it's boring in school. Historical fiction brings it alive for me.

I've grabbed the Kindle sample so it's on my to-read list as well. Mind you, I have 87 books on my to-read list so it may take a while to get to it, lol. I'll also mention your books on my blog next time I do a bargain historical fiction post.
