Misfit, do you still review at Amazon? I suppose you do - for Vine anyway.

Yeah, I still do especially with the older OOP's, and definitely for Vine. I hate having books with no real reviews on them. Every once in a while someone comes out of lurk mode and gives me a thanks for everything (like Stumpy and Jill to name two) and I can then send them over to Goodreads. Both are having a great time over there I might add :o
You see why everyone is over at HFO and Goodreads these days? The few reviewers I've come across and trust are already at one or both of those sites so I only go to Ammy to browse or to amuse myself at the latest Antics :p
[Deep salaam to all the moderators.] Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, for giving us a safe place to review and discuss HF! :)

Indeed, salaam! I get most of my book recommendations these days either here or from friends.

I've one more book to review for Vine and then I'm bowing out. I actually love reviewing and do try to write something for most books I read, though not everything; but after reading this article I think I should stop posting reviews on amazon. First, I just learned I'm breaking a rule, as I write "competing titles" (whatever; Vine invited me) and second, the antics are too much. Colleagues turning on colleagues, writers on other writers, bogus reviewers with vested interests - it's a circus.

Sad, isn't it, CW? I know what you mean, though. I still get quite a few film recommendations on Amazon, because its so good at offering films like the ones I buy, which are mostly arthouse, and therefore by definition, unfortunately, not well advertised in the mainstream media. Like you, I generally hear about books here ( :p :D :) ) or from family/friends. (BTW, I have given/will be giving 5 copies of The Last Queen to family/friends in the last few months/this Christmas. Doing my bit!)

CW, I am staying with Vine but I make sure I never ask for a competing title or something in which I have a vested interest - such as knowing the author. At the moment I have a book on how to use a digital camera for review and a cookbook. So I get to receive and review stuff I am interested in outside of the day job that doesn't pose an ethics dilemma.

Yes, it is sad. Bewildering, actually, people misbehaving like that . . . Anyway, thank you, Ben, for Last Queen gifts. Very nice to hear. Actually, at risk of turning this into an author love-fest, I just sent my brother a copy of The Forgotten Legion. He's really liking it so far.

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.
Location: California Bay Area

I'm giving several copies of the Last Queen as Christmas gifts myself. But then, I also have a vested interest, as I'm writing about 16th-century Spain. :D

EC, your amazon review policy is very sensible. Wish I was interested in reviewing other stuff, but I prefer fiction :)

MLE, thank you! Very much appreciated. Hope those who receive the book enjoy it. :D

CW, I do read fiction for review on Vine, but not in my area or if I personally know the author. So I go for thrillers and contemporary, a bit of fantasy and some older YA.
