Very interesting to read something of CJ Sansom's background. I sympathise with his desire to wince at mention of The Tudors TV series - I couldn't bear to watch it, even for the novelty value :(

Sansom's writing really impresses me- he gets everything right; characterisation, period detail, feel and atmosphere. I was even more impressed by his versatility when I read a short futuristic piece he wrote as one of the Medieval Murderers - it was equally as well developed and believable.

I love the Shardlake books ! Haven't read Heartstone yet but will soon. You're always drawn right into the atmosphere of the period.
I'm very glad to read in the interview that there's more of Shardlake to come !!

Yes - I didn't know much about him, though I did know he'd been a solicitor. Sounds like an interesting bloke - and it sounds as if his legal experiences have really informed his writing...

I really enjoy the Shardlake series, and this was a great article to read on the author. I have to say, I'm very much looking forward to books taking place in the reigns of the Tudor children, most especially Elizabeth. It delighted me that he's thinking that far in advance!

One of my favourite things about this series is that while it is set in Tudor England, it is NOT set in the over-heated and over-done (IMHO) Tudor Court, but looks at what that court has done to London's "atmosphere."
Even the mighty oak was once just a nut that held its ground.
