What Book Are You Wishing For?

Post by boswellbaxter » Tue November 23rd, 2010, 1:04 am

Is there a book on your holiday wish list this year? I've let Santa know, without any subtlety whatsoever (on Facebook and via my Amazon wish list), that I would like Anne Crawford's Yorkist Lord: John Howard, Duke of Norfolk. (Santa isn't big on subtlety in my house.)

Oh I've read "The Victorian Celebration of Death", good book, not cheap, but I think I got lucky. No idea where it's at now in my mess of a room :P

I've got lists and lists of books I want. Unfortunately I'm not likely to get any of them this year unless I buy them for myself. Which actually isn't much different from any other year.

The book I want will be the one I order for me as my gift from mom, so not really a wish.

I'm hinting to my partner that the Folio Society editions of Patrick O'Brian's books would not be amiss. heh. What I am truly tempted by is the flyer I just got from the cruise company today -- going off and baking my bones in the sun would be lovely in late December... To be honest, we don't celebrate the holidays much, and all I need is for him to sign the cheques that I need.

Two books that I'd like Santa to drop off for me are 'I shall wear midnight' by Terry Pratchett and 'The King's Favourite: A novel of Nell Gwyn and King Charles II' by Susan Holloway Scott :)

A Doonesbury Retrospective (oooh, just noticed that the price has been reduced!)

Under the Sun: The Letters of Bruce Chatwin

The Secret Lives of Somerset Maugham: A Biography

Nashville Chrome

Unbroken (Laura Hillenbrand, the author of Sea Biscuit)

I added the Twain autobiography to my B&N wish list and a very expensive research book. I'm holding out for one of those mucho % off coupons to get the second one.

[quote=""Ash""]Oh, I loved Midnight!

I've been holding off Ash as my TBR pile is terribly tall, but it doesn't count if it's bought as a gift for me right? :rolleyes: I normally love anything by Mr Pratchett so I'm pretty confident this one will be a winner too.
