I do hope that Kate chooses a British designer, and a frock that isn't sleeveless - it's all that Brides seem to have to choose from nowadays! A journalist from the Telegraph was shown on the news last week speculating that it'll be sleeveless and British designed, but I'm sure it'll be classy. I thought the blue dress she wore for the engagement announcement was the nicest thing she's been pictured in for a while. As for an extra bank hols, that'll be lovely as I'm a nurse and will probably be at work - it'll mean extra pennies lol! Plus the majority of my patients will love it :)

Ooh and Prince Wills has definitely been in a supermarket - there was a picture of him and Kate shopping in the paper last year ;)
If it's on a weekend, we'll get either the prior Friday or the following Monday off. It works that way for all holidays (aka bank holidays) which fall on a weekend, whereas I don't remember that being the case in the US (God, how bad is my memory?). For example, Christmas Day is on Saturday this year and Boxing Day (also a bank holiday here) is on Sunday so Monday and Tuesday become bank holidays in their place. That way, we never get cheated out of a day off.
In the U.S. the policy for holidays is determined by each individual business, not the government (except in the case of public agencies and the postal service, obviously). Fortunately, I've always worked for companies who chose the practice you describe above. And fortunately I've never worked retail (except for a part-time stint), since they generally don't get any "extra" holidays!!!

Yeah, if you aren't government or bank or similar very few of us get President's Day, Veteran's Day, MLK day off to name three. The mail gets those days off but UPS and FedEx, et all still have to work
At home with a good book and the cat...

I think the dress will be British. I also hope its not sleeveless. However I was going through yahoo with "possible dresses" that they selected and they were just outragous. I'm sorry but she is going to go with something classic. Something vintage...but something that looks elegant and not outrageous. One of the designs they showed was some corseted thing. I mean really?

It looks like Kate's influence on fashion has already begun. I read this evening that the blue dress she wore for her engagement announcement -- it was sold out within hours.
This has already been happening for some time- I remember a few years ago she wore a dress from Topshop , and demand for it immediately went through the roof.

A couple of polls in the UK show that those asked would like to see William and Kate as King and Queen instead of C&C, but I think the only way that will happen is if Charles predeceases his mother.

Well, a bank holiday (a national or public holiday) is not a compulsory day off for everyone in the UK either - you'll even find many restaurants and pubs open on Christmas Day.

This has been a long standing opinion.
Charles may not be able to take over after his mother. I mean his grandmother lived until she was 98 I believe. Who is to say the queenis any different?

Actually the Queen Mother was 101 when she died. So Elizabeth may live for many more years as long as her health stays good.
