I Know It Had "King" in the Title . . .

Hundreds of historical novels have "king" or "queen" in the title, but without seeing the cover or description, how do you know which monarch a book's about? Miss Moppet and other members have compiled this list to help you.

With a few people entering titles there's bound to be repeats at times.
Miss Moppet set up an index at the start of the Queen thread, listed by author in alphabetical order - quite useful for checking if anyone else had already entered the title you were going to add. Don't know if BB can be bothered doing the same here?

I can get one started, but I doubt I'll have the time to keep it up. If people could add titles as they go along, that would be great.

Whoops, true! Well, I've started an index, so I'll add to it as time permits. It's up to date at the moment.

The Shadow King by Jane Stevenson
Who's the king? Balthasar Stuart, secret son of Elizabeth of Bohemia and Pelagius, an exiled West African prince who spent years in slavery before arriving in Holland.
Main character? Yes. However playwright Aphra Behn has a secondary role in the story
Other titles: The Pretender (in the UK)

Note: the main character (and his father) is fictional. The author didn't note that in this novel or its prequel The Winter Queen
